Living and learning as a natural

Welcome to my blog. Here you will see post about what I’m experiencing as a natural.

After my frequent battles with dermatitis and burns from relaxers, I decided it was time to grow out my perm and try the natural lifestyle. Last perm: May 8th, 2010 – Big chop: February 19th, 2011. I count my growth while I was transitioning, since to me it is just as important as being fully natural. Therefore, I’ve been natural for 14 months and I’m loving it.

By natural lifestyle, mean using 90% natural hair products. I’m done with the mineral oil, paraben and sulfate laced products, and I’ve noticed quite a difference in how my hair reacts to them. So far so good! Dermatitis is still flares up every once in a while, but not as intense as before. Natural products have allowed me to see tremendous progress in my hair over the last year, so I plan to stick with them. My favourites right now are my own whipped shea butter mix, Kinky Curly Knot Today, coconut oil and my homemade spritz (water, avocado oil, castor oil and aloe juice). I also use Eco Styler gel to sometimes hold my curlies down.

To be honest I don’t even remember what my hair texture was like as a child, but I do remember it being thick and long. My mom washed and pressed my hair every two weeks. The detangling sessions were not fun times let me tell you, but otherwise my hair seemed to thrive back in those days.

So I’m looking forward to sharing hair stories with you and I’m hoping we can all learn together.

Blessings and Curls,
B-Curlie
